I'm not a runner. I'm not even a fast walker but I have participated in the DAV 5K every year beginning with the inaugural event in 2013. All of those have taken place in Cincinnati and I feared I would not be able to take part this year because I would be out of town on race... er, I mean stroll day. The reason I'll not be in Cincinnati that day is that I will be on my way to a Route 66 related event in California. It was really nice to learn that Tulsa would be hosting a DAV 5K this year. The location fits perfectly with my planned route and the timing, though not quite perfect, is close enough. I'm looking forward to partictpating in my fourth walk for DAV and kind of excited to be doing it in a different town.
Why I “Go 5K”
Did you know there are currently 4 million disabled veterans in our country? I want to do my part to help veterans, which is why I’m participating in the DAV 5K Run to Honor Veterans. DAV (Disabled American Veterans) is committed to a single purpose: empowering veterans to lead high quality lives. Together, we can stand up and honor the brave men and women who served.
DAV is a nonprofit organization that helps more than 1 million veterans in life-changing ways each year. DAV assists veterans by helping them gain access to the medical, financial and educational benefits they’ve earned along with connecting them to meaningful employment opportunities. All services are provided free of charge.
